Grumpy Canuck Brigade – Back to the Basics

The Grumpy Canuck Brigade is not about a guy that looks like Rambo and carries a .50 caliber machine gun. It’s about people like Sally and Tim, your neighbours. It’s about attitude, grit and determination. It’s about Elbows Up and Never 51st state.

One of the very first posts back in March 2025, was entitled “EACH ACCORDING TO THEIR ABILITY” which talked about how any civilian resistance movement would be made of all sorts of Canadians. We would be inclusive and come in all types, sizes, ages, ethnicities and sexes. And that as individuals, and as communities, we would take what actions we could, to the best of our abilities, to ensure that Canada remains a free and sovereign state.

We would make the individual choice to follow the path of Indirect Action or Direct Action or perhaps both, at different times and for different reasons.

Sylvie F - Our commonality is our desire to be a free and sovereign country and our willingness to take action to ensure that we stay that way.

Right now, we still can fight with words and ideas. To show our opposition to the American imperialistic hegemony that is being advocated by Trump and his ilk. To show our solidarity with the democrats in the US who are fighting against tyranny. To develop partnerships with like minded allies, to build alliances and trade relationship to reduce our exposure to Trumps “economic warfare” against Canada. To stand strong considering the political agitation and Maple MAGAs in Canada. That’s our job right now.

It’s why we posted about protests, political action and non-violent techniques to influence minds and win hearts. It’s why we wrote articles such as: Tools for a revolution / The Spray Can of Paint, the Marker, and the Crayon and How a can of soup can win the war / Canada boycotts USA products in a fight for economic survival.

But we can’t ignore that we could fail in that battle. That the battle for the hearts and minds will fall before Trumps unilateral decision to forcibly annex Canada under his insidious National Security Strategy. Knowing the USA, it’s not beyond my imagination to see them implement a “false flag” operation which could be twisted to justify this. Yes, its improbable but not impossible.

That’s why the Grumpy Canuck Brigade also talks of Direct Action. Why we talk about weapons and military tactics. Why we have articles on BOB Bags and improvised weapons and the need to be prepared. It’s why I advocate that we search inside of our hearts and minds and see if a Grumpy Canuck warrior lurks inside.

One of the biggest issues that affects a person’s chances for survival is the mental or emotional paralysis that comes when faced with hard choices. Your mind becomes overwhelmed with thoughts such as “what do I do, what can I do, should I do it, what can happen” and the thoughts keep coming and no answers are forthcoming. We’ve all seen the TV shows when indecisiveness and inaction lead to greater disasters. A time when the hero had a chance to act but did not and ultimately someone else paid the price for that inaction.

Well, in my viewpoint, before the SHTF, we need to make that mental and emotional decision now. Are we going to be part of a resistance movement or not. If the answer is yes, we need to decide into which category will we follow, Direct or Indirect action, based on our skills, abilities, temperament. No one is judging you for your choice, all we are asking for is that you make a choice.

And if we decide that we can’t or won’t support the resistance movement, we face other choices. Do we simply become neutral or do we become collaborators, sympathizers or quislings? And lets face it, those choices have consequences too.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not advocating some throwback to the wild wild west where Canadians adopt some northern version of the 2^nd Amendment stupidity. I support responsible gun laws and gun safety regulations even as a gun owner myself.

But I am determined that my Canada will never become the 51^st state. So, yes, I will continue to post advice and information on all sorts of military, survival, resistance topics that hopefully will never have to be implemented.

We all must decide where we fit into life. Elbows Up.
